Announcement of Centennial Anniversary Celebration

Peking University has cultivated thousands of talents since its establishment more than a century ago, and the School of Economics will successively extend its resplendence of the past one hundred years to benefit people. At the moment of the centennial anniversary of School of Economics, Peking University, we hereby send our sincere greetings and cordial thanks to the alumni home and abroad and friends from all walks of life concerning and supporting the development of School of Economics, Peking University.

School of Economics, Peking University is the first economics faculty among general universities of China, and also it is the earliest communication base of Marxist Economics and Modern Western Economics in China. The economics discipline can be traced back to 1902 when commercial discipline of Imperial University of Peking (the predecessor of Peking University) was established. Department of Economics was established in 1912 by Mr. Yan Fu, after he was assigned the President of Peking University. In 1985, School of Economics, Peking University was established on the base of Department of Economics, which is the first School established in Peking University after the China`s Reform and Opening.

Over the past century, School of Economics, Peking University, which has profound historical origins and long-standing academic traditions, has emerged out many deeply cultured and far-reaching master figures who enjoys high reputations in the academic community, such as Yan Fu, Li Dazhao, Ma Yinchu, Zhou Binglin, Chen Daisun, Zhao Naituan, Fan Hong, Chen Zhenhan, Zhao Jing, Hu Daiguang, Wu Shuqing, Li Yi`ning, Xiao Zhuoji etc., which has made great contributions to the economic and scientific development of China.

School of Economics, Peking University has a sound discipline system of economics, a perfect cultivation system for undergraduates and postgraduates, plus the first post-doctoral research station in China. It is one of the `National Base for Training Talents in Economics` and `National Experimental Area for Innovating Modes of Talents Culturing` assigned by the Ministry of Education. Its prominent history, renowned academic status and innovative education mode attract the best students in China and all over the world.

 `The Celebration Meeting of the Centennial Anniversary of School of Economics & 110th Anniversary of Economics Discipline of Peking University` will be held on the morning of May 25th, 2012 at the Peking University Hall. From March to May of 2012, School of Economics will launch a series of celebration activities and academic activities including Economics Education Forum, News Conference for CHEN Daisun Economics Fund, School History Photo Exhibition, Prominent Alumni Forum, etc. We look forward to welcoming alumni home and abroad and friends from various fields to support and participate in the celebration activities, to establish and advance our friendship, and to look into the future of School of Economics!
