On April 19th, 2019, School of Economics at Peking University and China Center for Insurance and Social Security Research (CCISSR)at Peking University jointly held “The 16th Peking University CCISSR Forum·2019” at Peking University. The theme of this forum is “An Important Period for Strategic Opportunities—Chance and Challenge”.

During the keynote speeches, Professor Xiaojuan Zhang, Dean of School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University, Mr. Xiaoyi Hu, Chairman of China Social Insurance Association, Mr. Feng Liu, Director of Department of Governance and Supervision in China Bank and Insurance Regulaory Commission and Professor Qixiang Sun, Director of China Center for Insurance and Social Security Research at Peking University were invited to deliver speeches on the present chances and challenges facing this important period for strategic opportunities from the perspectives of the service economy, personal pension systems, supervision on insurers’ corporate governance and strategic opportunities, which aroused broad resonance and deep thought. During the high-level talks, guests from insurance companies, reinsurance companies, insurance asset management associations, and scholars had dialogues on “important national strategies for insurance service”. Associate Professor Zhu Nanjun, PKU CCISSR Vice Secretary-General, hosted the meeting. Mr. He Wang, former Cheif Supervisor of People's Insurance Company of China, Mr. Deyun Cao, Executive Vice President of Insurance Asset Management Association of China, Mr. Qing Chang, Deputy CEO of Munich Reinsurance Company in China and Professor Wei Zheng, Chair of Department of Risk Management and Insurance at SEPKU participated in the meeting. Guests held in-depth discussions on chances and challenges during the important period for strategic opportunities, and important national strategies for insurance service, which stirred strong repercussion and received wide praise among the delegates.

In the afternoon, the academic symposium of PKU CCISSR Forum took place. Six academic sub-forums were involved, namely, “Insurance and Social-economy”, “Aging Population and Insurance”, “Health and Medical Insurance”, “Three Rural Insurance”, “Policies and Laws for Insurance”, and “Insurance Company’s Operation”. The authors, of around 30 selected paper, from universities, scientific research institutes and the industry made thesis presentations and had warm exchanges and talks with delegates on academic sub-forums.
Around 200 people attended this forum, including CCISSR Consultant, Standing Director, Expert Committee members and Council Member representatives; political, economic, and academic guests from insurance, social insurance, finance, economy and relevant fields; students and faculty of PKU, and journalists.
It is reported that the annual PKU CCISSR Forum is an important academic activity in domestic insurance and social security. This forum had been successfully held for sixteen times. Since the establishment of CCISSR in 2003, the center has aimed at constructing an exchange and communication platform for political, economic and academic ideas, promoting theoretical studies and knowledge innovation. By conducting a series of academic research and exchange activities, it has made positive contributions to the development of China’s Insurance Industry and the reform of social security systems.
